NEW TO WWFF?

World Wide Flora & Fauna: the international program for operating from protected nature areas. In the US it's called KFF, and Kentucky has about 140 KFF references, many of them POTA parks too. Here's how to sign up, the rules, and how to get your log in.

THE BASICS

What Is WWFF?

WWFF started in Europe and now runs in dozens of countries. Each country has its own program: the US one is KFF, with references like KFF-1234.

ACTIVATORS

Operate From the Area

Set up inside a WWFF area and make contacts. 44 contacts count toward activator awards, and they can add up over several visits to the same area.

HUNTERS

Work Them From Anywhere

Hunters get credit for every area they work, however many contacts the activator made, once the activator's log is uploaded. Awards are tracked on WWFF Logsearch.

WORLDWIDE

DX Flavor

WWFF is very popular in Europe. Activate a KFF area on 20 m and you may get calls from the other side of the Atlantic, and you can hunt DX parks from home.

The Rules That Matter

A plain-English summary of the WWFF Global Rules and the KFF FAQ. Where KFF is stricter, KFF wins.

ACTIVATING

Contacts

  • 44 contacts for the activation to count toward activator awards.
  • They add up: the 44 can be built over several activations of the same area.
  • Fewer than 44 still counts for hunters. Always send your log, even with a handful of contacts.
  • Same station counts again on a different band, a different mode or a different day.
  • No repeaters, Echolink or remote stations. KFF also excludes satellites.
  • Each contact needs both calls and a signal report, and the reference when possible. No relayed calls or reports.
WHERE & HOW

Location & Station

  • Your whole station must be inside the area's boundary. Part of it isn't enough.
  • One reference at a time. If areas overlap, pick one, and announce it.
  • Vehicles are allowed. Operating from your car or truck inside the area counts.
  • Any power source is allowed. Green power is preferred.
  • No time limits: no minimum time on site, and no waiting period between activations.
  • Lawful access only. Follow the land manager's rules. See Rules You Should Know.
STEP BY STEP

Your First WWFF Activation

  1. Pick a KFF area. Easiest: a Kentucky POTA park that's also a KFF reference (the Park Commander shows both).
  2. Check the boundary. Your whole station must be inside.
  3. Call "CQ WWFF" or "CQ POTA, WWFF" and give the KFF reference (KFF-xxxx) along with your call.
  4. Spot yourself on a DX cluster with the KFF reference in the comment, so WWFF spot tools find it. If it's also a POTA park, spot on POTA too and mention both references.
  5. Aim for 44 if you can. If not, come back another day: they add up.
  6. Log electronically (ADIF), with the KFF reference in your log. See below.
THE PART PEOPLE SKIP

Submitting Your Log

WWFF logs are not self-uploaded like POTA. In the US, you email your log to the KFF log manager for your call area, and they load it into Logsearch.

HOW

Email Your ADIF

  1. Export ADIF from your logger.
  2. Name the file CALLSIGN@KFF-1234 YYYYMMDD.adi. For example: KZ4CP@KFF-1234 20261013.adi
  3. Email it to the KFF log manager for your call sign's call area, not where you operated. The list is on the KFF site.
  4. Don't resend to fix mistakes. A second upload makes duplicates. Ask for corrections through the WWFF helpdesk instead.

Getting the Log Right

YOUR REFERENCEMY_SIG = WWFF, MY_SIG_INFO = KFF-1234
PARK-TO-PARKSIG = WWFF, SIG_INFO = the other station's reference
CAN'T EDIT ADIF?Put the other station's reference in the comment, and tell your log manager
TIMESUTC, like every program

Most POTA logging apps (HAMRS, Ham2K PoLo and others) can add the WWFF reference too. Check yours.

TWO PROGRAMS, ONE TRIP

POTA + WWFF Together

  • Many Kentucky POTA parks are also KFF areas. One activation can count for both programs.
  • Different numbers: POTA needs 10 contacts, WWFF wants 44 for award credit. Aim for 44 when the band's good.
  • Two logs, two places: upload to POTA yourself (pota.app → My Log Uploads), and email the WWFF copy to your KFF log manager.
  • Boundaries can differ. Make sure you're inside both, especially for the WWFF "whole station" rule.
  • Give both references on the air: "CQ POTA and WWFF, US-xxxx, KFF-xxxx".
