KENTUCKY PORTABLE CLUB

PRIVACY POLICY

Short version: this site doesn't collect personal information, doesn't use tracking cookies or ads, and doesn't sell anything.

Last updated October 16, 2026 (Activation Board, Guestbook, CW Leaderboard and the visit counter added). This policy covers the Kentucky Portable Club (KPC) website at kentuckyportableclub.github.io/KPC-Links and the club's automated posting tools, including the KPC Facebook Page app.

What we collect

KPC collects almost nothing about you. There are no accounts, no tracking cookies and no advertising on this site. We do count visits with GoatCounter, a small privacy-friendly counter: it uses no cookies, does not follow you to other sites, and only tells the club totals such as how many people opened each page, which site sent them, and the kind of device and country. It never stores your name, email or exact location, and the counts are only seen by the club. The exceptions are the club forms (Park Notes, Community, Campground reviews, KPC Reports, the Activation Board, the Guestbook and the CW Leaderboard) described below, and only if you choose to send something.

Park Notes and Community posts

If you submit a tip on the Park Notes page or a post on the Community page, it goes through a Google Form into a Google Sheet kept by the club (Google's privacy policy applies there). The forms ask for your call sign, what you are sharing and optional photos (Elmer listings also show the contact method you choose); it does not collect your email address. Uploading a photo asks you to sign in to Google. Posts without photos show on the site without waiting when your call sign is found in the public license lists (callook.info, HamDB) and the words have no links, phone numbers, email addresses or bad words; everything else, every photo, and every Elmer listing waits for the club to approve it. Approved tips are posted with your call sign, and approved photos are copied to this site, shrunk, and saved without camera location data. To have a tip, post or photo removed, contact us.

Activation Board, Guestbook and CW Leaderboard

These three Google Forms also go into Google Sheets kept by the club (Google's privacy policy applies there), and none of them collect your email address. The Activation Board shows your call sign with the parks, dates, times, bands, modes and notes you enter. The Guestbook shows the call sign or first name you type, your state, the town if you give one, whether you are a ham, and your message; the answers to "How did you find us?" and "What did you like?" are only shown as totals, never next to your name. The CW Leaderboard shows your call sign, score and speed. To check that a post is real, call signs are looked up in the public license lists at callook.info and HamDB, and park numbers on the POTA, SOTA and WWFF sites; posts that pass those checks and have no links, phone numbers, email addresses or bad words show on the site without waiting, and anything else waits for a club officer. To have a post removed, contact us.

KPC Reports form (conditions, photos, events, comments and problems)

The KPC Reports form is a Google Form that goes into a Google Sheet kept by the club (Google's privacy policy applies there). It asks for your call sign and what you are sending: a park condition (like a locked gate or flooding), a photo, an event, a comment, or a problem with this website. It does not collect your email address. Uploading a photo asks you to sign in to Google. Park conditions are shown on the site with your call sign and the date you saw them, and come off automatically after 30 days. Photos are only used if you tick "OK to use on the website"; they are copied to this site, shrunk, saved without camera location data, and shown in the Member Field Photos album on the Photos page with your call sign, caption and where they were taken. Events are listed on the Events page with your call sign. Comments are shown on the Community page with your call sign and date only if you answer Yes to "Show it on the website"; if you answer No, your comment stays private in the club's sheet and is never posted anywhere, including GitHub. As with the other forms, nothing goes on the site until the club approves it (posts from club members are approved automatically). Problem reports are never shown on this website: they go only to the club's to-do list for fixing the site, kept on GitHub where the website's files live (anyone who visits the club's GitHub page can see that list, so leave out anything private). Please only send photos of people who are OK with being on the website. To have a report or photo removed, contact us.

Email updates and club announcements

The Get email updates button opens a Google Form. The email address you give is kept in the club's private Google Sheet and used only to send KPC news and campout updates. It is never shown on the website, never put in a public file and never sold or shared. Use the same form and choose Unsubscribe to stop the emails; your newest answer always wins.

Club announcements are written by members in a private club Discord channel and are copied to the News or Campout page (with the date), the club Facebook Page and the club Groups.io list. Pictures are shrunk and their hidden location data is removed first. The poster's Discord display name is shown with the post.

Settings saved in your own browser

Some tools remember your choices (units, favorite parks, CW practice settings, map layers and similar) using your browser's local storage. That information stays on your device. It is never sent to KPC. You can clear it any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Files you open in a tool (for example a POTA or SOTA log in the Park Checker or Summit Checker) are read inside your browser and are not uploaded anywhere.

Google Drive backup (KPC Logger and Hunters Lounge)

If you choose to sign in with Google to back up your log, the page asks Google for permission to use only the files it creates in your own Google Drive (Google's "drive.file" permission). It saves one file there ("KPC Logger log.json" or "KPC Hunters Lounge log.json") and reads it back when you tap SYNC. The file goes straight from your phone or computer to your Drive: KPC never receives it, never sees your other files, and never stores your Google sign-in. You can delete the file in your Drive at any time, and you can remove the app's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Outside services

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Some tools load public data directly from other services, such as the POTA API, NOAA space weather, OpenStreetMap map tiles and place search, CDN-hosted code libraries, and embedded YouTube videos. When your browser contacts those services, they receive the usual technical information (like your IP address) under their own privacy policies. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we're not responsible for their content or practices.

Our Facebook Page app

KPC uses a small Meta (Facebook) app only to publish posts to the club's own Facebook Page, such as upcoming Kentucky ham radio events and new club videos. The app does not log anyone in, does not read your profile, friends, messages or any other user data, and does not store any information about Facebook users.

Data deletion

Apart from Park Notes tips and Community posts you choose to submit, we don't collect or store personal data. To have a tip, photo or anything else removed, including a post on the KPC Facebook Page, contact us and we'll take care of it.

Children

The site is for a general audience of amateur radio operators and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes & contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Questions? Contact the club.
