VOICE PILEUP PRACTICE

Be the activator: stations call you, you copy their calls, give reports and keep a clean log. Or be a hunter: pick a station off the spots page and get through the pileup. POTA, KFF, SOTA, or regular contacts.

No license yet? Leave YOUR CALL blank and you'll be K4TEST, a practice call sign. US call signs never have 4 letters after the number, so it can never belong to a real ham.
Beta test. The voices are your browser's built-in voices, so they talk one at a time (a pileup here is callers stacked back to back). Works best in Chrome or Edge on a computer; phones work too. Practice only: nothing here is a real contact.

πŸ—Ί Practice Spots pretend, not real activators

Spots are like the POTA spots page or SOTAwatch. Careful: sometimes a spot has the call wrong, so copy the call off the air. After you work someone, RE-SPOT them to help them get more contacts.
Enter your call and press START.
How hunting works: listen until they say QRZ ("who's calling?", your cue to call) or finish with 73, then press CALL MY CALL once (or say your call). If they come back to you, check they got your call right (press NEGATIVE if not), then SEND MY REPORT. Calling while they're working someone is called doubling: don't! (QRT is different: it means they're going off the air.) Turn on Show what they say under Sound to see their words too.

Hold the button and talk like you're on the air: "CQ POTA, CQ POTA, this is…", their call + "you're five nine Kentucky", "again again", "QRZ", "QSL", or "thanks, seventy-three" (then you log it). Use earbuds so it doesn't hear the callers. Your voice goes to Google's or Apple's speech service to be turned into text, like talking to your phone's assistant.

Type part of a call in the CALL box and press QRZ? to ask just that station ("the station with Alpha Bravo Charlie, go ahead").

Your Log

Hunter log: their CALL (from the air), SENT (what you gave them), RCVD (what they gave you) and THEIR PARK, then Log it. It checks against what really happened. The flow: hear a call β†’ type it in CALL β†’ Send report (or press Enter) β†’ they give you their report and state β†’ type them in RCVD and STATE β†’ Log it (or Enter). The log checks every entry against what was really said.

πŸ€– Auto log fills in and logs the contact for you as soon as it's done (marked πŸ€–, not counted in "logged right"). The ADIF file is marked PRACTICE: never upload it to POTA. πŸ€– Auto log (next to START) fills in their report and state and logs the contact when you say or tap THANKS, 73. Good for getting the hang of the talking first; contacts it logs are marked πŸ€– and don't count in "logged right." Tap πŸ–¨ on any contact to print a practice QSL card for it. The ADIF file is marked PRACTICE. Use it to try opening a log in your logging program; never upload it to POTA.

Sound

Tap to check your phone or computer can talk. Turn the media volume up.
KPC tools and guides are planning aids, not official sources. We make mistakes. Do your own research and check official maps. KPC is an independent ham radio club, not part of Parks on the Air®, SOTA or WWFF.
