🔎 Station Finder

Listen to each kind of station for a few seconds to check it off. Every new one earns a ⭐ for the Kids Room. Find all of them for 5 bonus stars!

📻 How to use the radio

  1. Press the red POWER button. You'll hear a soft shhhh. That's the sound of the band.
  2. Pick a band. On 40 meters you hear Kentucky and nearby states (and more static crashes). 20 meters skips right over the states next door and brings in far-away places like Texas, Colorado and California. That jump is called skip.
  3. Spin the big knob (drag your finger or mouse around in a circle), or press SCAN to jump to the next station. Use DOWN and UP for tiny steps.
  4. If a voice sounds like a cartoon duck, turn the dial a tiny bit until it sounds normal. That's how real radios work!
· · — Morse code zone

The bottom of every band is for Morse code beeps (CW). Tune until the beep is a nice middle note and the letters appear.

🗣 Talking zone

Higher up, hams talk with microphones. This is called phone or SSB.

Can't hear anyone? Tap to check your phone can talk.

Everything here is pretend. The voices are your device's built-in reading voices, so only one person talks at a time. All call signs are made up with 4 letters after the number (like K4FROG), which are never given to real hams. Park, summit and KFF numbers are real Kentucky places. Use Chrome, Edge or Safari; on a phone, turn the media volume up.
